The Hawai'i
National Great Teachers Seminar is a high energy summer retreat that
brings teachers together to learn from each other and exchange teaching
innovations and solutions to teaching problems.
In spite
of what the name might suggest, the seminar is not so much an assembly
of "great teachers" as it is a group of dedicated educators in search
of the "great teacher" within themselves. With no experts or keynote
speakers, the seminar is based on the principle that teachers are
the experts in teaching and learn best from one another.
The
20th annual Hawai'i National Great Teachers Seminar, organized by
Leeward Community College, is held Sunday through Thursday, August
10-15, 2008. Each participant will bring to the seminar two "one-page" papers
for discussion, focusing on: an innovation in classroom teaching
and a specific problem encountered while teaching. Seminar staff
will lead sessions centered around the special interests and problems
of participants. Educational field trips are also scheduled. |
